Yesterday after having a busy and tiring week working long shifts whilst trying to study, and train simultaneously, my boyfriend turned me as his alarm went off: "Today is the first day I really, really don't wanna go work." This continued all morning - you now how it is - you realise you're feeling a certain a way and eventually - if you let it - this feeling heightens..."I have a headache and I am so tired - I just want a day off doing nothing." However, it was my day off which meant I was happy and full of energy - content that I have the whole to myself and don't have to rush for work. I wanted to train, and my boyfriend, being the typical fit person he is, didn't wanna miss out on training especially if I was going. We decided to focus on low reps and power lifting. He smashed a personal best regardless of feeling lathargic and groggy. He later sucked it up and went to work where he was on shift with one of the newest employees - he ended up having a really great shift and realised they had so much in common. Then, closer to the end of his shift,he started speaking to a sports annalist - this 'natter' resulted in an 2 hour long conversation about nutrition and training. When he got home I had made a protein banana nut pie (yes, a day off work means I get to spend time making crazy concoctions in the kitchen) and we watched the new X-Men film - not such a bad day eh?
Sometimes there are days where we just cannot be arsed; whether it's going to work, training, cleaning, going out to see your friends, studying but only starting is the hardest part. Sometimes we feel like we're not moving BUT DON'T GIVE UP.
TIPS
Do it anyway
Try for 15 minutes and then quit if you still want too - chance are you'll carry on anyway
Look at people who inspire you - or something that inspires you - whether it be a few pictures on social media or read an inspirational/transformation story.
Get fit with a friend/family member or go to a class - other people will help push you and without knowing it you'll be pushing yourself even more.
Put on a song which gets you moving
Find something new to try or add a new exercise to your routine or your daily routine in general
If you're finding something hard take a new approach
Do it first thing in the morning before you let those lazy feelings set in
Get dressed in your work clothes or gym clothes
Give yourself an incentive
Remember why you should or need to be doing it in the first place - have you got a goal? an event coming up?
Do a workout at home instead of going to the gym - you can find a routine easily just by a search in Google, or YouTube or download a fitness app like the Nike Training Pro. Easy peasy and you saved fuel.
Create reminders and alarms on your phone of goals to achieve and actions you need to do
Allow yourself to complain - but only whilst getting ready to go - oh look you're dressed now, may as well go....
Buy new gym clothes
Ask yourself what the benefits are of going to the gym or to work or whatever your unmotivated to do
Write a list of all the things you want to achieve
Take smaller steps if you're finding things too much or too difficult
Don't wait till your perfect at something - everybody starts as a beginner
Plan your day - either in the morning or the night before - if it helps make a timetable
Change the environment - get outdoors, go to to a new place....take a different turning on your run
Develop your mantra - compile a list of motivational quotes or words or pictures or songs...
and finally remind yourself of how far you have already come.
So go on, get up lazy bones and grab life by the horns. Remember, you have everything you need to succeed - you have life- and it's up to you what you do with it. And, like my boyfriend, you might find yourself having a better day then you ever thought possible.
